What is the safest place to keep a home safe or locker?

The best place for a home safe is somewhere hidden but still bolted to something solid. Many people instinctively put safes in the master bedroom wardrobe – which is also the first place burglars check. If you can, choose a less obvious room: a study, a closet in a hallway, even a storage room.

The safe should ideally be anchored to the floor or wall so it can’t just be picked up and carried away. A small safe that’s not fixed is basically a metal handbag for a thief. Position it where it’s not immediately visible when someone casually opens the room door.

Avoid placing it where moisture or heat is extreme – near bathrooms, under leaky pipes, or close to stoves. Also think about day-to-day practicality. If you need to access documents frequently, don’t hide it behind ten boxes. You want a balance: inconvenient for strangers, simple enough for you.

Finally, be careful who knows about it. The fewer people aware of the safe’s location and contents, the better. Security is part hiding place, part habit.
