Which home appliances should be serviced every year without fail?

At minimum, air conditioners, water heaters and chimneys/exhausts deserve yearly attention. These appliances quietly work hard in the background and affect both comfort and safety. ACs collect dust and mould, especially in humid or dusty areas. Servicing them once a year keeps cooling efficient and power bills reasonable, and reduces that stale smell some neglected units get.

Water heaters mix electricity and water – not something you want to ignore. An annual check can catch loose connections, failing parts and dangerous pressure issues. In hard water areas, descaling helps extend their life.

Kitchen chimneys or heavy-duty exhaust fans become grease magnets. If you cook often, especially with oil and spices, they clog up fast. Regular cleaning not only keeps them effective, it also reduces fire risk and makes the kitchen less sticky.

Fridges, washing machines and dishwashers don’t always need full “servicing” every year, but a basic check and deep clean every now and then doesn’t hurt. The idea is simple: if an appliance handles heat, heavy load or combustion, don’t wait for it to die before you show it some care.
